Nominator's project description

Paul Weindling is a historian of science and medicine. He is considered worldwide as the leading researcher on the history of sciences and medicine of the National socialist era. His research sets standards in the integration of science and medicine in its socio-historical environment, in the global ethical implications since 1945 and in the history of NS medical experiments on humans. Moreover, he documents intensely the emigration of scientists from Germany and from the German-occupied countries. Weindling emphasises, on the basis of his meticulous work, the victims' perspective on these experiments, and he discusses his results in a broad scientific and extra-scientific public sphere. Professor Weindling is hosted by Professor Alfons Labisch and by Professor Rainer Godel at the Centre for Science Studies of the National Academy Leopoldina.
